Mission
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything (He) commanded”
Whether we live and work in Barnet or travel to the ends of the earth, as Christians our mission is to fulfil the Great Commission, by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ wherever God has put us.

Christ Church is committed to supporting a number of people and organisations, partnering with them and giving prayerful and financial support as they work to share the Gospel and themselves support other Christians in the UK or overseas.
The McMinns, Delft SA
Bettaway Community Church Delft, South Africa
We are Clive, Glenda, Daniel, and Jessica McMinn, serving at Bettaway Community Church in Delft, Cape Town since 2000. Despite its reputation as a "god-forsaken place," our ministry is deeply rooted in outreach. Here’s what we do:
• Sunday morning services are attended by 120 adults, 40 high school learners (Youth Ministry), and approximately 100 children (Kids Church).
• Poverty Relief Fund Grocery voucher program was designed to provide crucial support to vulnerable families. These vouchers not only alleviate immediate hunger but also empower families to choose nutritious options that suit their needs. The initiative has now expanded to include additional services like medical assistance and housing support. Cape Town's winters are particularly severe, with wet, damp, and chilly conditions posing significant challenges for those living in informal settlements. Many residents rely on thin walls and makeshift roofs that offer little protection against the elements. To address this, winter-proofing efforts have been implemented, which involve enhancing the insulation and overall structural integrity of these shacks.
• Bettaway Learning Support Centre When we launched the BLSC we welcomed approximately 17 students, we now serve a vibrant community of about 80 primary and high school students. Students receive valuable assistance with their schoolwork, which helps them build confidence and competence in their academic abilities. Our program is managed by qualified teachers and dedicated community volunteers, who work together to create a nurturing, safe, and supportive academic environment. This approach allows children to address their immediate educational needs and also develop a love for learning and a sense of belonging within the community. A crucial factor in our success, particularly for our high school students, has been the provision of access to WiFi and internet support.
Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF)
Clare & Paul Woodington were members of Christ Church in the 1980's and were married and confirmed here. They felt called to work for MAF and have been serving with them since 2006, when they left the UK with their four children, for Australia where Paul began training as a pilot. Their first posting was in 2008 to northern Australia and then in 2012 to Papua New Guinea. Paul recently transitioned from a pilot role to working full time creating IT software to make flying safer. The couple are now based in Kuranda, about 40km from the MAF International Head Office in Cairns. Paul is expanding an iPad app he developed in PNG, helping pilots navigate safely in remote locations. cockpit. A new version of the Pilot App for West Africa and PNG is planned for release once completed. Clare has become more involved in their local church shop and community library, completing a qualification in library and information studies. While in PNG, they supported the Bible Faith Outreach (BFO), a project that began in 2010 when a Christian couple opened their home to vulnerable children. Over time, this grew into a children’s home and school. At CCB, £1,000 was raised in 2024 to refurbish the boys’ dormitory. Updates on this ongoing project are awaited.
Samara
Samara’s Aid
In 2013 Samara begun the journey which would bring about the huge achievements of Samaras Aid appeal. In answer to prayers of how she could arrange to send lorries containing humanitarian aid to the Middle east, God replied ‘start collecting’, and she did! Samara visited Christ Church in September 2019, to talk about her work in Syria, many answers to pray and her journey of faith since she started Samara’s aid Appeal. Through her almighty faith, resourcefulness and empathy for the plight of the people in Syria, Samaras Aid Appeal has:
Sent 110 lorries and containers of aid to Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and Greece & 11 ambulances to Syria
Provided a number of small field hospitals during the conflict, and a medical centre in an area previously controlled by ISIS which saw more than 3,000 patients every month.
Distributed aid to more than 100,000 people who fled East Ghouta; and more than 80,000 people in Deir Ez-Zor after ISIS was forced out
Opened an outreach centre for orphans and widows in Syria, providing a safe space for children who have lost one or more parents, and a food back for emergencies
Current projects include:
Designing and building a permanent Christian hospital in Syria.
Farming projects to grow essential foods needed by the community, which will also provide employment.
Developing the work of the Orphans and Widows Outreach Centre to provide educational and developmental activities for children who have lost one or both parents. Additionally helping widows with children establish livelihoods to and learn new skills and work towards independence.
Refurbishing and establishing a new permanent specialist medical centre, hoping to open around the end of 2020
In Syria around 85% of the population are living in poverty, a situation of devastating war. Samara talks about this in her book Rebuilding The Ruins (July 2019) - a must read a story of hope, faith and love which crosses borders to reach out to some of world’s most vulnerable.
The Johns, Care2Share
Care2Share
We are Danny and Rachel John and have four children - Mim, Sam, Sarah & Jake. We have a background of working for several years in India and Uganda with various organisations seeking to alleviate poverty, teach and demonstrate the love of God practically among the marginalised. However in February 2025 we moved to Chaing Mai, Thailand. It has been a two-year-long process with prayers, discussions and a visit to Chiang Mai last February confirming that God was guiding us to take this step in obedience and faith. We always felt we would return to Asia in some mission capacity once our kids had grown up! Ideally, we would have loved to go back and live and minister in India but with the current political situation, it has become clearer that it would not work out as we are self-supported Christian workers.
While we are away in Thailand our boys Sam and Jake stay in our home as they work nearby. We are grateful to God for our four children who are fully behind us and have allowed us to do what the Lord has put in our hearts for the next season.
Where and what?! We are moving to Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand to work with Joy to the World Foundation, which works with young people providing ways to prevent them from being trafficked which is an enormous problem there. We will be living and working in one of their projects - Breanna's House of Joy which provides a safe place for girls to grow up in a Christian environment, providing them with a place for healing, and counselling also enables them to access education.
The Scutts
Chris and Hannah Scutt have been serving in Malawi for more than 11 years through YWAM (Youth With A Mission) at the base in Blantyre. Chris’s mission focus (based on his past experience in Education and ICT industry), is leading the Educating for Life Teacher Training Development programme, where he carries out training and educational projects in Malawi, Uganda and Zambia and works with educators in Tanzania and Zimbabwe, developing leaders and mentoring young people. In addition, he engages as a consultant, assisting a number of NGO's with ICT support, service development, websites and hosting, e-mail and Mobile Application Development, which help build infrastructure in more remote parts of Malawi, and is studying part-time for an ExecMAL in Pioneering Leadership - a two-year programme that will help him develop his leadership abilities. Aside from the full-time role of bringing up three young children (Caleb, Lily and Josiah), Hannah’s passion has been in healthcare, particularly with young women and mothers. After assisting at several births locally, she is praying into the vision of a Christian Birthing Centre.
The Desboroughs - AIM Madagascar
Desboroughs - AIM Madagascar
When they serve in Madagascar, the Desboroughs’ primary role will be to mobilise Malagasy Christians for God’s mission. They are convicted of the need to invest in Malagasy churches in the capital and encourage them to send missionaries to preach the holistic gospel of Christ in other areas of the country and overseas. By developing partnerships with a range of churches and organisations, they aim to raise awareness of the need for mission. It is then vital to ensure that churches and prospective missionaries have high quality mission training, and that their deployment is well facilitated.
