Mission
Whether we live and work in Barnet or travel to the ends of the earth, as Christians our mission is to fulfil the Great Commission, by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ wherever God has put us.
Below you will find information about each of our Mission Partners. Please contact the church office for the latest Mission Update News.
mission partners
Christ Church is committed to supporting a number of people and organisations, partnering with them and giving prayerful and financial support as they work to share the Gospel and themselves support other Christians in the UK or overseas.
Bettaway Community Church Delft, South Africa
We are Clive, Glenda, Daniel & Jessica McMinn and we have been in a church in Delft since 2000 Delft in Cape Town, is a place labelled by society here as a “god-forsaken place” The greatest foundation of the ministry at Bettaway Community Church in Delft Cape Town is OUTREACH. What we do:
▪ Currently we have 120 adults, with 40 high school youth and approximately 90 children attending Sunday morning service.
▪ Through our food kitchen, we are feeding about 20+ families per month with a weekly hamper of food. This has now increased in the past 5 weeks to 120 families with need for food. For 5 days per week, we feed rural children with sandwiches and juice.
▪ Since August 2011 we have been running a Homework Club after school program for approximately 61 of our learners from Grade 3 to 12. Because of the current pandemic our tutors have tried to assist with online school printing and worksheets.
Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF)
Clare & Paul Woodington were members of Christ Church in the 1980's and were married and confirmed here. They felt called to work for MAF and have been serving with them since 2006, when they left the UK with their four children, for Australia where Paul began training as a pilot. Their first posting was in 2008 to northern Australia and then since 2012 they have been based in Papua New Guinea. Paul continues to serve as a pilot providing air transport to remote communities via regular transport of health workers, medical emergencies, supplies and produce. Paul and Clare are now based in Wewak, where Clare runs a small pre-school for MAF and local families and makes mother and baby packs for pregnant women containing all the essentials for a new born baby.
Samara’s Aid
In 2013 Samara begun the journey which would bring about the huge achievements of Samaras Aid appeal. In answer to prayers of how she could arrange to send lorries containing humanitarian aid to the Middle east, God replied ‘start collecting’, and she did! Samara visited Christ Church in September 2019, to talk about her work in Syria, many answers to pray and her journey of faith since she started Samara’s aid Appeal. Through her almighty faith, resourcefulness and empathy for the plight of the people in Syria, Samaras Aid Appeal has:
Sent 110 lorries and containers of aid to Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and Greece & 11 ambulances to Syria
Provided a number of small field hospitals during the conflict, and a medical centre in an area previously controlled by ISIS which saw more than 3,000 patients every month.
Distributed aid to more than 100,000 people who fled East Ghouta; and more than 80,000 people in Deir Ez-Zor after ISIS was forced out
Opened an outreach centre for orphans and widows in Syria, providing a safe space for children who have lost one or more parents, and a food back for emergencies
Current projects include:
Designing and building a permanent Christian hospital in Syria.
Farming projects to grow essential foods needed by the community, which will also provide employment.
Developing the work of the Orphans and Widows Outreach Centre to provide educational and developmental activities for children who have lost one or both parents. Additionally helping widows with children establish livelihoods to and learn new skills and work towards independence.
Refurbishing and establishing a new permanent specialist medical centre, hoping to open around the end of 2020
In Syria around 85% of the population are living in poverty, a situation of devastating war. Samara talks about this in her book Rebuilding The Ruins (July 2019) - a must read a story of hope, faith and love which crosses borders to reach out to some of world’s most vulnerable.
Care2Share
We are Danny and Rachel John and have four children - Mim, Sam & Sarah are adults and Jake is still at school. We have a background of working for several years in India and Uganda with various organisations seeking to alleviate poverty, teach and demonstrate the love of God practically among the marginalised. We currently live in Harpenden and run a charity called Care2Share registered here in the UK that aims to provide support and training for Indians already in church ministry working with the marginalised.
Danny also teaches regularly on YWAM courses and is on the board of trustees at All Nations Christian College.
Scutts (YWAM)
Chris and Hannah Scutt have been serving in Malawi for more than 11 years through YWAM (Youth With A Mission) at the base in Blantyre. Chris’s mission focus (based on his past experience in Education and ICT industry), is leading the Educating for Life Teacher Training Development programme, where he carries out training and educational projects in Malawi, Uganda and Zambia and works with educators in Tanzania and Zimbabwe, developing leaders and mentoring young people. In addition, he engages as a consultant, assisting a number of NGO's with ICT support, service development, websites and hosting, e-mail and Mobile Application Development, which help build infrastructure in more remote parts of Malawi, and is studying part-time for an ExecMAL in Pioneering Leadership - a two-year programme that will help him develop his leadership abilities. Aside from the full-time role of bringing up three young children (Caleb, Lily and Josiah), Hannah’s passion has been in healthcare, particularly with young women and mothers. After assisting at several births locally, she is praying into the vision of a Christian Birthing Centre.
Desboroughs - AIM Madagascar
When they serve in Madagascar, the Desboroughs’ primary role will be to mobilise Malagasy Christians for God’s mission. They are convicted of the need to invest in Malagasy churches in the capital and encourage them to send missionaries to preach the holistic gospel of Christ in other areas of the country and overseas. By developing partnerships with a range of churches and organisations, they aim to raise awareness of the need for mission. It is then vital to ensure that churches and prospective missionaries have high quality mission training, and that their deployment is well facilitated.
